Lucia Dress is my contribution to the Isager Archives 2 collection

Description

Lucia Dress is a feminine, oversized drop-shoulder dress worked in stockinette stitch with the wrong side facing out. Anyway, the body and sleeves are worked from the wrong side so you can knit in the round (only knit stitches).

The dress features a delicate slip-stitch pattern on the front yoke — slip-stitch colorwork is an easy way to knit with two colors, since you work with only one color at a time.

The dress has decorative edges — across the shoulders on both the front and back pieces, and at the hem of the body and sleeves. These edges are worked in a beautiful stockinette pattern with the wrong side facing out, broken up by rows of chain stitches. The edges at the bottom of the body are worked back and forth on the front and back pieces separately, creating a slit on each side.

The shoulders, the sleeves, and the boat neckline are all gently shaped with short rows.

The intended length of the dress is just below the knee. Sleeves are designed for a ¾ length. The piece is knitted top-down, making it easy to adjust both body and sleeve length to your preference.

Video links for English speaking tutorials for all techniques used, are available in the pattern.

Note: The pattern also includes instructions for knitting the Lucia blouse!

Recommended Needles

Circular needle 4 mm (80 cm) for stockinette stitch, worked both flat and in the round, with one strand Trio 1/Spinni held together with one strand Silk Mohair.

The borders (top of front/back, sleeve, and hem edges) are also worked on 4 mm needles.

The front yoke pattern section is worked on a 3 mm circular needle (80 cm).

If you decide to crochet single crochet stitches around the neckline, you will need a 3 mm crochet hook.

If you want a tie for the dress, you will need two 3 mm double-pointed needles.

I recommend the Magic Loop method for knitting the sleeves and sleeve borders. If you do not use Magic Loop, you will also need a 4 mm circular needle (40 cm).

Gauge

18/19 sts × 27 rows = 10 × 10 cm on 4 mm needles in Stockinette stitch (flat and in the round)

18/19 sts × 37 rows = 10 × 10 cm on 3 mm needles in Slip-stitch colorwork (flat)
